| Time for Every Season - RCBA 2012 GALA Thanks to the vision, planning, and organization of the RCBA GALA Planning Committee, the 'Time for Every Season' 2012 GALA was a fabulous success. Over 150 people attended the event which was held in the new sanctuary at River City Community Church on Saturday, April 21. Attendees were treated to a first class event with stunning table decorations, tables loaded with auction items, vibrant student entertainment, and motivating speakers. Student class project baskets, corporate gift and donation items, and personal donations offered silent and live auction bidders with something to accommodate every taste. The auction mood was buoyed by news of a $30,000 dollar-for-dollar matching gift for all table, ticket, auction and gift donations. To officially open the event, Master of Ceremonies Keith Garrett welcomed guests to the GALA and RCBA Chairman of the Board Roger Mumme offered an opening prayer. Guests were treated to Italian brochette, stuffed mushrooms caps, and mini quesadillas for appetizers, and then enjoyed garden salad, chicken picatta, rib eye steak, garlic mashers, mixed grilled vegetables, dinner rolls, freshly brewed iced tea and coffee. For those with a sweet tooth, a dessert station awaited them filled with mini cheese cakes, cake balls, white and chocolate cake, brownies and fresh cookies. Ryan Azzaro and Band provided music during the meal. The RCBA Fine Arts students under the direction of Darna McGinnis entertained the GALA attendees with musical performances and video presentations during the evening. Live performances included “Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again” by Topacio Roman, “All Your Life” by Liz Byrd, Emily Mumme, Maddy Raposo, and Michelle Cottingham, “The Kite” by Jonothan Hanlon, “Real” by the RCBA Praise Band and RCBA Choir, and “Just In Time” by Chris Ogren. Inspirational speeches were delivered by senior Janie Carroll, class of 2010 alumnus Megan Murata, and Director of Student Affairs Woody Murata. Superintendent and Pastor Sean Azzaro delivered the keynote address on the product of RCBA – a ‘Real Life’ Believer ready to be a witness in our world. To conclude the evening, live Auctioneer Jerry Penshorn worked to auction off the live auction items. Among the items sold were original artwork from artists Melanie Raposo and Olga Ibarra, a Six-Flags Stay-Cation package, Golf Package, and a Spurs Night package. A hardworking auction checkout team provided smiles and express payment for winning bids. The GALA mood was tempered upon hearing news that Principal Tonia Willars had a fall earlier in the day and was unable to attend the event. The thoughts and prayers of the entire River City Believers Academy community went out to Mrs. Willars upon hearing the news. All were disappointed that she was unable to enjoy the fruits of her labor knowing her tireless efforts have helped the school become such a wonderful place to learn and grow in Christ. Many thanks go out to the planning committee, Parent Partner Board and members, volunteer parents and students, RCBA staff and teachers, and River City Community Church staff who ensured a great event for all attendees.
